Is Internet Marketing Really For You?

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

For most people all this internet stuff is not easy. Many a marketer has come and gone, and truth be told, it’s not for everyone.

But if you have the desire, you are committed and implement all the things you learn, you can succeed.

Probably the biggest secret you never heard of, is find your routine and repeat it everyday.

In other words, figure out a daily routine that works for you. It may be to check your customer/subscriber e-mail first and take care of them. Do any advertising work you want for the day, whether it’s an e-mail to send your list or re-writing an ad. Doesn’t matter, but without any type of contact out to the world, how do you plan on ‘making it’ and earning even one dollar? Nobody ‘makes it’ by wishing for traffic to their product.

Then, work on your website fixing/updating any pages or uploading a new product. Last, check your other e-mail accounts for any new products that may fit into the theme of your website. I say checking your e-mail LAST because the downfall of most new marketers is they play around with their e-mail for hours first, run out of time for the day and never get around to their real business. They spent all their time chasing the next best thing-joining a new program or buying another e-book they will never get around to promote or read.

How you want to set up your routine is your choice, just stay away from your e-mail accounts until you work on your business, or you’ll soon not have one. It’s that plain and simple.

Of course, you will want to learn new tactics and strategies as time goes on to improve your skills, but as long as you continue to implement what you learn you will have a much higher chance of being successful over someone who does nothing. Reading all those e-mails, watching all those videos, does really amount to doing nothing if it interfers with your business time. And don’t go back to try to catch up on those e-mails you didn’t get to, delete them. Trust me, you won’t miss anything as tomorrow there will be another ‘hot item’ being promoted.

Another problem that keeps people from being successful is most people overcomplicate marketing by over analyzing every single aspect of a business to try to develop the perfect system. There isn’t one. All this does is create more confusion, which leads to frustration and empty pockets. Don’t get hung up on things like the latest Google tricks, you can’t possibly integrate all those ‘master plans’ as you’d be re-building your site all the time. Forget those going from $10,000 a month to $50,000 a month programs. Are you already making $10,000 a month? If so, you don’t need someone else’s ‘magic pill’. I’d be most happy with just a whimpy $10,000 a month. Use some common sense, step back a moment before you spend your hard earned money.

All you need to understand is that when all is said and done, online marketing is purely a numbers game.

  1. Decide what you are going to market.
  2. Have a PLAN.
  3. Get prepaired – your products, website, reasearch and organize your advertising material.
  4. Promote, promote and promote some more. Don’t forget to track your promotions and split test various ads.
  5. Follow up – on yourself. Stay on track, stay pro-active.

Yup, easier said than done. However, once you are set up, then all you have to concentrate on is getting people to your site. As long as you have a good sales process, the rest will take care of itself.

If you find yourself getting discouraged – don’t. We’ve all been there with dreams of success only to see them turn into failures. It’s all part of the “game”. Just keep on keeping on. Some will find success quickly. Most won’t. We all have different experiences depending on our financial situations and backgrounds. Some have more time to spend than others. Only you know you, so work with what you have. Trying to listen to and follow every ‘guru’ you get information from will mean failure. Many of them are only in a J.O.B. (just over broke) themselves. They can’t do it for you and while you can learn from them, you have to make your own way. That’s life.

Remember this: that even successful marketers are in a constant state of failure. The difference is they don’t give up. They let the winners run and cut the losers. It’s a continous cycle, so don’t ever let up. Just because one program or product flops, doesn’t mean they all will. Be flexable, be willing to CHANGE. Change is progress, progress means profits. The world is full of people who will never reach their real potential because they fear change. Leave your comfort zone, dare to try something new.

If you aren’t having success in a particular market, there are tons of other markets you can try. In starting out I would suggest you keep away from the internet marketing niche and other bigger markets and try smaller niche markets with less competition. Not that it is impossible to make money in these bigger markets but it is much more difficult and should be something you take on as you gain experience.

Above all, you have to give yourself a chance. Don’t over analize everything, you can’t be a perfectionist so don’t be afraid to make a mistake, we all make them, and if you wait for the perfect time, it will never happen.

The best advice I have, is to just get started with a plan of action.
Then ACT.

How to get repeat visitors to your website.

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

When people visit your website chances are very likely that most of them will leave within the first ten seconds, never to return again. The worst part about this is they leave without buying anything. They don’t even take the time to leave you a name, number or email address, so you have no idea how to reach them again.

Getting people to come back to your website repeatedly.

Let’s get started:

- Update the pages on your website frequently. Stagnant sites are dropped by some search engines. You can even put a date counter on the page to show when it was last updated.

- Offer additional value on your website. For affiliates and partners you can place links to their sites and products and ask them to do the same for you. You can also advertise their books or videos, if these products relate to your industry and   are not in competition with your own product.

- You can allow customers to ‘opt in’ to get discounts and special offers. Place a link on your site to invite customers to  ‘opt in’ to get a monthly newsletter or valuable coupons.

- Add a link to your primary page with a script ‘Book Mark or Add this site to your Favorites’.

- Add a link ‘Recommend this site to a Friend’ so that the visitor can email your website link, with a pre-written title,   “Thought you might be interested in this”, just by clicking on it.

- Brand your website so that visitors always know they are on your site. Use consistent colors, logos and slogans and always provide a ‘Contact Us’ link on each page.

- Create a ‘Our Policies’ page that clearly defines your philosophy and principles in dealing with your customers. Also post your privacy policy as well so that clients know they are secure when they visit your site.

- Create a FAQ page which addresses most of the doubts and clarifications about your product or your company that are likely to be asked. This helps to resolve most of the customers doubts in their first visit to your site.

- Ensure that each page on your website has appropriate titles and keywords so that your customer can find their way back to your site if they lose the book mark.

- Never spam a client, who has opted for newsletters, with unsolicited emails. Later if they decide they want to ‘opt out’ of   the mailings, be sure you honor their request and take them off the mailing list. They may still come back if they like   your products.

One more thing you can do is make your website more interactive. Make it interesting and fun for them to stick around. Let’s take a look at MySpace as an example. Go to the main page and snoop around. Not only do they provide a place for people to meet and get to know each other, they have polls, classifieds, forums, videos and more. All designed to get you to stick around and come back again.

Now I’m not saying that you should try to compete with MySpace, but what you can do is take the time to design your web pages so that your visitors will want to click around for a while and get to know you. Give them something to do and a reason to come back. The longer you can keep their attention the more times you can get them to come back the better for you and your business!

Reciprocal link building and how it will help your website ranking.

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

When it comes to SEO reciprocal link building is a long way towards giving your site good rankings. Especially if your site is relevant or related to the topic and subject of the site you are linking to. It is also a very effective way to drive traffic to your site.

Reciprocal links have been around a long time. Unfortunately, they are an often overlooked or an under-used method and as with any strategy there are advantages and disadvantages involved.  So, should you be using reciprocal linking in your marketing strategy?

That is a very good question, and in today’s issue we’re going to go over some things you should consider about reciprocal linking, and how it  will effect your business.

Let me ask you this question. How many times have you searched for a Website to link to, only to find out that they don’t even have a links page?

Of those that do, few have an area on their website that actually welcomes you to request a link trade. It seems these websites are missing the boat when it comes to the World Wide Web’s strange, yet shockingly efficient linking system.

Before you begin your reciprocal linking plan.  Here are some things that you should consider:

- Make sure that you are linked to relevant sites meaning you both have the same subject matter and at the same time all the links are also related to each other.

-  Remember that it’s more about quality than quantity when it comes to reciprocal link building.  Look for quality sites that are related to your topic.

- Keep in mind that this is a long and sometimes frustrating process because you still have to check to see if other websites have agreed to the link exchange and you will need to check periodically to see if the link to your site is still present on the websites that you have made exchanges with.

- Be prepared for rejection. Some webmasters may turn down your request. If that’s the case, you may want to take their link off your site.

- Examine the other sites link pages, are they indexed and visited by the major search engines? If the site doesn’t have good rankings it probably won’t do you any good to link to them.

- When requesting a link exchange, consider the links that are already displayed on the other site.  They should be relevant to your website. Also take the time to check and make sure that the site doesn’t have a lot of broken links, because it will effect way the search engines spider the site.

- Another thing to consider is how many links are displayed on the page you were thinking about linking to. It is a good idea not to link with a page has more than 30 to 40 links on it.

Be sure to follow the basic link exchange rules set in place by the sites you want to trade links with. The site that you are exchanging links with should exist in major search engines and have good traffic ranking. Alexa.com is a great way to check out a site’s rankings and traffic flow.

All and all-reciprocal linking can be a good, free way of achieving high website ranking, but keep in mind that you should periodically check the status of your links and site rankings, so you can get the most out of your efforts.

I have three directories set up where you can place reciprocal links
